Hacienda Decor Spanish architectural and interior design were strongly influenced during the Roman and North African occupations. Rome and Morocco contributed building techniques and styles as seen in arched windows and doors, ornately carved columns, clay roofing tiles, elaborate ironwork and stucco facades. After centuries of occupation, these architectural styles became the Spanish architectural style. In the 1500's Spain became a world power and began to spread this architecture to concquered lands. Spain flourished after the discovery of the Americas and architectural skills were highly developed during the colonial period. Spanish architecture and home furnishings were modified by resources available in the Spanish American colonies but Spanish styles remained constant. West Indies Style developed in the Spanish-controlled Carribean islands and Hacienda Style developed in Spanish-controlled Mexico and Peru. Hacienda decor is a favorite decorating style found today throughout the southwestern United States, Texas and California. |
